Constance Announces That Dr. Glenn Mitchell Will Serve Part Time as Chief Technology & Medical Officer

More than two-thirds of senior citizens in the US report they want to age independently in their own homes. Dr. Mitchell brings incredible experience and insights to the Constance team that will help drive expanded access to Constance’s mobile health platform and high-touch check-in services that improve the lives of older adults aging in their homes. Constance provides a proven non-medical solution for healthcare systems undergoing the rapid switch from profitability models based on the quantity of patients (including readmissions) to a valuebased reimbursement model that both saves healthcare costs and puts patients’ quality care first.

We are delighted to announce that Glenn W. Mitchell, MD, MPH, CPE, FACEP, is assisting the team as Chief Technology & Medical Officer. Dr. Mitchell will guide Constance’s growth as a leader in virtual mobile-care technology as the company expands its check-in call platform for health systems to access nationwide.

The Constance team is thrilled to have Dr. Mitchell on board to guide the company’s mobile health technology strategy and development. Cofounder & CEO, W. Henry Yaeger shared:

“Dr. Mitchell joins Constance at a critical point in our development. His extensive practical experience designing and implementing healthcare informatics systems will prove invaluable as we continue to provide actionable, real-time patient data for providers who share an accountable care mission and need to control their resources carefully.”

Dr. Mitchell’s unique background in healthcare management and health informatics will drive continuous improvements of Constance’s wellness-tracking platform that connects families and healthcare providers with their high-touch, human-powered check-in service for seniors living independently. Constance’s HIPAA-compliant technology provides person-centered, non-medical check-in services and socialization for older adults aging at home with regular digital updates to busy families about their loved ones’ wellness. Constance addresses the most important wellness factors that impact health outcomes: early detection of medical conditions, care-plan adherence, and reduced isolation and loneliness through regular social engagement, especially critical during the pandemic.

In 2017, Dr. Mitchell spoke about the rapidly changing healthcare climate in “Medicine’s Big Leap is Here” for TEDxHarrisburg. In his talk, Dr. Mitchell advocates learning from and building on others’ failures to optimize healthcare technology for better healthcare. He will lead Constance’s technology strategy to help accountable care organizations lower readmission rates, increase post-discharge patient satisfaction, reduce costs and risk, and increase revenues so they can improve patient experience through personalized customer experiences for older adults and their families.

Dr. Mitchell will continue to serve as Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Professor of Healthcare Informatics at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Harrisburg, PA, and the founding Program Lead for Healthcare Informatics since 2016. There, he established a university program in healthcare informatics to grant certificates and master’s degrees to help the healthcare community, including managers and leaders, to analyze healthcare data for more informed decisions and actions.

Prior to Dr. Mitchell’s work for Harrisburg University, he served as a consultant and principal for Physician Change Management. He shared his expertise in healthcare and physician change management, leveraging health IT to reduce the turbulence and costs of today’s accelerating pace of change. Dr. Mitchell also worked for NAI, a management consulting firm that provides strategic and operational solutions to healthcare and other industries undergoing transition. He also was previously Chief Medical Officer for the Sisters of Mercy Health System in St Louis, MO, responsible for establishing the Center for Medical Informatics and the Center for Quality and Safety. For his exemplary commitment to patients, Dr. Mitchell received the Excellence in Military Emergency Medicine Award in 2003 and the Defense Superior Service Medal in 2000.
